How fit do I need to be to do this trek?

Annapurna Base Camp is a Grade B or a moderately difficult trekking route. So any fit person can do this trek, even if you do not have any previous experience. You should be aware of what to expect and mentally prepare for it. Then, as long as you will to, you can.

How long do we walk every day when doing Annapurna Base Camp trekking?

On average, you walk about 4 to 6 hours per day. One or two days can be as less as 3hrs and one or two days can be as long as 7hrs.

What is the highest altitude reached in this trek?

The highest altitude reached is 4190m. This is the elevation of Annapurna Base Camp. ABC is the highest we will climb in this trek.

What about battery charging and hot shower facilities?

Yes, you can charge batteries en route. Charger should be brought. There are hot shower facilities as well. You may have to pay certain amount for both ($1-$2). Negotiate. Also, hot water facility could be free at lower elevation.

Are there ATMs on the way to Annapurna Base Camp?

No. There are no ATMs on this trek route. You will have to draw enough cash in Pokhara or Kathmandu. There are a number of ATMs in these cities. Everything is paid in Nepali rupees. So money should be exchanged before the start of the trek.

What about internet access?

Yes. Internet can be accessed in most places. Sometimes, there might be some technical problems. Internet in Nepal is not as fast as you are used to and at times you can just lose connection.

Is it necessary to hire Guides/trekking agency for Annapurna Base Camp trekking?

Not really. It depends on you. If you want, ABC trekking can be done independently. You could hire a guide and a porter by yourself instead of going through an agency or not hire a guide at all. Although, not having a guide can be a little problematic during off season. It really depends on you. Is it your first time in Nepal? How confident are you of being able to find your way around? How pressed on time are you? If you go through an agency, it will be costlier but everything will be planned. You will only have to come, trek and return.

How much do guides and porters cost?

For Annapurna region, pay for guides range from $20 to $30 per day and porters take $15 to $25 per day.

The details of 2 days picturesque Bumdra trek in Bhutan such as itinerary, cost, altitude, difficulty & distance are given below. You can do this trek from three points but the highly recommended is from Sang Choekhor monastery in Shari. The trail passes through pine forest and the view of Paro in the valley floor below is breathtaking. The trek is romantic in the sense that hikers can soak in the beautiful sunset over the hills of Haa. You can also get a bird’s eye view of the Tiger’s nest monastery (Taktsang) and all the chapels above it. There are three sky burial sites in the area which is believed to have been blessed by Guru Rinpoche.

While in Bumdra, you have the option to hike to a sky burial site, practice archery or Khuru game (Dart) or spend the time in leisure. The photography opportunities are immense especially if you love nature and beautiful sceneries.

Day 1 :

Arrival at Paro international airport & sightseeing (Altitudes 2280 m)

Your guide from Quick travelers will receive you at the Paro international airport and drive you the short distance to the Hotel. In the afternoon, visit Ta dzong (National museum of Bhutan).Then visit Rinpung dzong built in 1646 by Shabdrung Ngawang Namgyal.In the evening, visit to a Bhutanese farmhouse. Day 2 :

Trek to Bumdra monastery

In The Morning, Drive to Sangchoekor Buddhist College in the Paro Valley (Start of Bumdra Trek Altitude: 2,800 M). Walk up hill for 2 hours. We Walk Past Chhoe Tse Lhakhang and near the Bumdra Monastery (Cave of Thousand Prayers). After lunch, visit the monastery or climb a peak nearby at around 4000 meter. We return to the camp. Dinner and overnight in camp. Hiking duration: 3 – 4 hours to camp, optional 2–3 hours return trek to peak, Bumdra trek difficulty level: Moderate.

Day 3 :

Hike from Bumdra via Tiger’s nest – Thimphu

In the morning, return from Bumdra via the gate of Tiger’s nest monastery. Guru Rinpoche, the tantric mystic who brought Buddhism to Bhutan flew here on the back of a tigress. We descend down and reach the base of the hill where our vehicles will pick us up. (End of Bumdra trek in Bhutan itinerary, Altitude: 2280 m). In the afternoon, drive to the ruins of the Drugyal dzong built in 1647 by the great Shabdrung Ngawang Namgyal.Then visit Kichu lhakhang built in 659 A.D by the Tibetan King Srongtsen Gampo. This is also one of the oldest temples in the country. Drive to Thimphu. On the way, visit Tamchog monastery built in the 15th century by Thang Tong Gyalpo.Dinner and overnight in Hotel.Hiking duration: 5 – 7 hours, Bumdra trek difficulty level: Easy.

Day 4 :

Thimphu sightseeing | Altitude: 2334 m.

In the morning, visit the national memorial chorten (1974) and the tallest statue of sitting Buddha in the world (51.5 meters). Then visit Changangkha lhakhang, Takin preserve center, Sangaygang view point and Dupthop lhakhang one of the few surviving nunneries in Bhutan. Afternoon – Visit to painting school, the school of 13 arts and crafts.In the evening, visit to the Tashichho dzong, the royal secretariat. Then free to stroll in the town for shopping and photography. Dinner and overnight in Hotel.

Day 5 :

Thimphu – Punakha sightseeing |76 Km | Drive: 3 hours | Altitude: 1242 m.

In the morning, drive to Punakha. On the way, visit Dochu La pass with its 108 stupas.Then visit Chimi lhakhang built in 1499 to honor Lama Drukpa Kuenley, popularly known as “The divine Madman”. This temple is also called “the temple of fertility”. Afternoon – visit Punakha dzong built in 1637 by Shabdrung Ngawang Namgyal and is the winter residence of Je Khenpo. In the evening, drive to Yabesa village and hike to the imperial Khamsum Yuelley monastery. Dinner and overnight in Hotel.

Day 6 :

Punakha – Wangdue Phodrang – Thimphu | 90 Km | Drive: 3 hours.

In the morning, walk across the longest suspension bridge in Bhutan (160 m). The Punakha suspension bridge is considered the longest of its kind in Bhutan. Drive to Thimphu via Wangdue Phodrang. On the way, view the Wangdue Phodrang dzong built in 1638 by Shabdrung Ngawang Namgyal. Lunch at Dochula cafeteria and drive to Thimphu. In the afternoon, visit to postal museum where you can make personalized stamps. Then witness the archery match at Changlimithang stadium.In the evening, free to stroll in the town for shopping and photography. Dinner and overnight in Hotel.
